SHINE Festival is an annual youth event run by the National Youth Council! From local music acts like The Sam Willows and ShiGGa Shay – to the kpop sensation Jessica Jung, as well as DOTA booths – the festival was teeming with people! It was simply impossible to walk from one end of Orchard Road to the other without rubbing shoulders with another.
Located along the familiar streets of Orchard Road were different booths – advertising or selling items to the youths. Most booths offered a free experience in their products or services – enticing all ages alike!
I went down on the last day of the festival, just to experience the crowd and booths for myself!
Once i stepped out into the streets, the loud music from the booths boomed out to welcome me! I went straight to the first booth i saw – a game booth. However, the moment i saw the queue – i decided to commemorate my presence with a picture instead of physically playing the booth!
Look at this super cool photo booth! After taking these pictures, a strip of polaroid pictures can be bought from the counter. We saw many couples and families queuing to get a good shot!
Walking ahead, we were tempted to enter Wisma Atria to escape from the humidity that Singapore is known for. However, a DJ booth caught our eye! The booth managers encouraged us to hit some pads to create beats for a certain melody. After playing with it, I am convinced that i could be a potential DJ. (Kidding, or am i)
Here are my friends trying to look cool
“Make some noise for Gareth Fernandez!!!!” Dee Kosh bellowed out, hyping the crowd at the Ion stage.
“WOOOO” the fans of Gareth Fernandez welcomed their singer idol onto stage.
Gareth’s voice was amazing – weaving in his own sound into covers of trending songs by Zayn Malik, Taylor Swift, Charlie Puth and so on. His fans were bobbing to the sound of his music, very much taken over by the thrilling beats of his songs. He sang his original songs too, full of charisma and swag.
Alas, all good things come to an end. We had to leave soon after.
I am looking forward to next year’s SHINE Festival where perhaps i could encounter the Festival in its entirety!
